BT Infonet - case study
BT Infonet are providers of worldwide corporate data networks with many major blue chip clients. Based in London, they work with affiliated companies across the world to deliver their integrated data services.
“Intradev’s development team worked closely with our finance department during the project, understood our requirements well, and ultimately delivered a system that improved the way we operate. Using the cost comparison and margin reports we have found items which will pay for the NCD on their own. Result.”
Murray Scott,
Finance Director, BT Infonet
Brief
Billing and invoicing are extremely complex due to the constantly changing infrastructure and network solutions and also the need to pass on affiliate charges to the customer. BT Infonet already had an internally developed system in place, however this system was struggling to cope with increased levels of business and did not give sufficient management reporting.

Approach
Intradev thoroughly researched all BT Infonet’s billing processes and presented different options for delivering a system to automate this key part of the business.
Solution
Intradev developed a custom application known as NCD, that keeps track of all BT Infonet assets and customers. Invoices are generated from the system during a monthly billing run and data exported to a Sun accounts system. Data is also imported from another BT Infonet system to enable comparison and profitability reports to be run.
Benefit
The NCD system has streamlined the billing process considerably and is allowing existing staff to cope with a higher volume of orders. The management reports have allowed BT Infonet to make savings which have more than paid for the development of the system in the first three months of operation.
