Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust Case Study
Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust operates a Homecare Medicines Service that enables patients to receive specialist hospital-prescribed medicines directly to their home or nominated address. The service is designed to improve patient convenience, reduce unnecessary hospital visits, and provide greater flexibility in how ongoing care is delivered. Having previously partnered with Mid Yorkshire on several departmental software solutions, Intradev was approached to modernise the Homecare department’s existing system and improve operational efficiency.
The Homecare department, consisting of approximately 10 users, relied on a legacy Microsoft Access database to manage patients, repeat prescriptions, and medicine deliveries. Originally developed in-house, the system had become increasingly difficult to maintain and no longer supported the evolving needs of the department. Key challenges included:
- Slow system performance and limited scalability
- Difficulties supporting and updating the database
- Limited reporting and visibility of operational data
- Increased risk associated with reliance on a legacy platform
Lack of modern security and user access controls
The department required a more reliable, secure, and future-proof solution that could support day-to-day operations while preserving valuable historic patient and prescription data.
Solution
Intradev designed and developed a bespoke web-based application tailored specifically to the operational requirements of the Homecare Medicines Service.
The new browser-based platform replicated the essential functionality of the existing system while introducing significant enhancements, including:
- Secure role-based user access and authentication
- Faster system performance and improved usability
- Enhanced reporting and data visibility
- Streamlined patient and prescription management workflows
- Improved reliability and ease of ongoing support
To ensure continuity of service, Intradev also carried out the migration and conversion of historic data from the legacy Access database into the new platform.
